AVMF Our Oath in Action Day
Date: Saturday, October 26, 2013
Where: WildCare Foundation - Noble OK
The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) is the charitable arm of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). For 50 years, the AVMF has been dedicated to embracing and advancing the well-being and medical care of animals.
In 2005, the American Veterinary Medical Foundation Our Oath in Action program was created in response to the devastating impact Hurricane Katrina left in the Gulf Coast area of the United States. To assist in the recovery efforts in New Orleans, the AVMF organized volunteer members of the veterinary community in animal shelter cleanup efforts. The inaugural program was so well received that Our Oath in Action became a permanent program for the Foundation with an annual shelter project held in conjunction with the AVMA annual convention.
In 2013 Our Oath in Action is being expanded nationwide beginning with six communities across the country: Alabama, Illinois, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas and South Dakota.
Join us on October 26, 2013 as we put Our Oath in Action for the animals of Oklahoma.
The devastation Oklahoman has witnessed is heart breaking. Our heart aches for the people and pets that were impacted. But let us not overlook the wildlife. As the storm tore through residential areas it continued through the rural areas where wildlife once called home. Their songs will not be heard again.
In the three weeks following the May tornadoes WildCare took in 840 animals. Many came from the tornado areas across central Oklahoma. Then, May 31st the storms produced extensive flooding and hail. Golf ball sized hail hit WildCare’s facility breaking windows, tearing screens, denting roofs, and killing five birds in our enclosures.
Oath in Action day will be providing volunteers to help repair and rebuild many of the structures at WildCare. Join us to help WildCare.
